Wario’s Goldmine- Mario Kart Wii

The Video Game Music Ensemble

In 2024, Susan Lindemann founded a Video Game Music Ensemble at the USF School of Music, assembling a diverse group of musicians to perform the soundtrack of Mario Kart Wii. She promoted and adjudicated auditions, leading to the recruitment of over 20 musicians. Susan collaborated with the USF Video Game Club, which provided a Wii console and remotes, allowing the audience to play the game live during the performance. As events unfolded in the game, such as completing levels and collecting items, the ensemble responded in real time, playing musical themes that corresponded to each event. Her ensemble featured a wide instrumentation, including woodwinds, brass, strings, and a rhythm section. As a result, the project featured original arrangements for a fusion ensemble, written by Susan Lindemann, Erik Barber, Julián Pernett, Cameron Coffee and Xiao Migros . Susan conducted and led the group through an engaging concert, bringing the exciting integration of live gameplay and music to life.

To Play: A Conversation

To Play: A Conversation, is a collaborative performance by Susan Lindemann and dancer Madeleine Wilcox. In November of 2023, Susan began conceptualizing an interdisciplinary performance that would feature a musician and dancer. After she began working with Madeleine, the two devised a unique work that explores the mindset artists must take on in order to deliver a captivating performance. Susan recorded an original arrangement of Minuet II, Suite I from J.S. Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello to be used as a soundtrack for the performance.
